What is a philanthropic
advising firm?
A philanthropic advising firm provides consulting services related
to charitable giving. Like an attorney or financial planner,
Hirsch & Associates charges clients a fee for our expertise
in philanthropy.
We would eventually like to manage our
philanthropy ourselves, but need help getting started. Can
you help us?
Absolutely. We work with our clients in a variety of capacities
for varying lengths of time as needed. For example, we can
work with you for a few hours each month, or on a specific
project for a defined period of time. We can even act as your
staff and manage the day-to-day operations year-round.
I would like to get involved with philanthropy.
How do I get started?
We have a number of tools to help first-timers devise a giving
strategy, but often simply beginning a conversation with us
about your interests, values and ideas is enough to get us
started on a plan for giving.
How did Hirsch & Associates get started?
Susan Mayer Hirsch has worked in the Bay Area nonprofit and
foundation community for over 20 years. In 1999, she founded
Hirsch & Associates to serve a market niche of helping
individuals and families with their giving and grantmaking
management.
Does Hirsch & Associates do fundraising?
Hirsch & Associates does not
do fundraising or write grants. We work with individuals and
families that make grants or gifts to nonprofit organizations.
How does Hirsch & Associates charge
for its services?
Hirsch & Associates charges by the hour, project or on
retainer. Because every project is different, we provide each
client with a proposal prior to working together with costs
and deliverables. See our Fees section
for more information.
What is Hirsch & Associates' philosophy
about philanthropy?
Hirsch & Associates does not provide "cookie cutter"
solutions to philanthropy. There is no single way to achieve
your charitable goals, and we enjoy our clients' varied perspectives.
We take the time upfront to get to know our clients' goals
and personal preferences before devising a cost-effective
plan that meets their needs.
